Snapped Cynthia Sommer and Todd Sommer

Status: Acquitted 

In season 7, episode 3 the murder of her husband, Todd by Cynthia Sommer is shown. This murder occurred in the state of California. Oxygen describes this episode of Snapped as Cynthia Sommer, a military wife, is suspected of murdering her husband Todd in February 2002 when his autopsy reveals he was poisoned with arsenic

Plaintiff alleges Todd Sommer collapsed in the early morning of February 18, 2002. Plaintiff alleges she called 911 and attempted CPR. Id. Plaintiff alleges Todd Sommer was pronounced dead at the hospital approximately half an hour later. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Stephen L. Robinson performed an autopsy and concluded that Todd Sommer had died of cardiac arrhythmia. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Robinson did not find any signs of poisoning. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Robinson preserved tissue samples during the autopsy. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Robinson forwarded the report to Dr. Brian D. Blackbourne, then the Chief Medical Examiner for the County of San Diego. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Blackbourne agreed with Dr. Robinson that Todd Sommer had died of natural causes. Plaintiff alleges Dr. Blackbourne issued a death certificate which identified the manner of death as natural and the probable cause of death as cardiac arrhythmia of undetermined etiology.



Cynthia Sommer is Convicted of first-degree murder with the “special circumstances” of murder by poison and murder for financial gain in January 30, 2007. Conviction overturned on November 30, 2007. Charges dismisses in April 2008. Released on April 17, 2008.



You can not write to Cynthia Sommer as she is not incarcerated. If she hasn't written a book, she should. Someone decided she was guilty and built a case based on that belief instead of looking at the evidence. She loved her husband and was deeply grieving, which can make you make bad decisions. She filed a lawsuit after the fact but it was dismissed.
